It derives from the Norman-French pre 10th century word "norreis", meaning a northerner, or more pragmatically a Norseman or what we now know as a Viking. The dukedom of Normandy in France means the place of the North men, since it was settled by Vikings in the 8th century a.d. Patrick Norris from County Cork Ireland, settled in Lincoln Neb. USA was a railroad engineer . Three sons , Pat , Fron, Jack .and one daughter Mildred Norris Eckert . Son Pat a graduate of Nebraska University was president of a Capitellar tractor dealership covering three states. Was a state senator in Wyoming where he lived. Fron worked for the railroad and Jack was a SEABEE Military man who served in WW II. Patrick the father , his wife , Fron and wife are burred in North Platte, Neb.
