HUSSEY Family History

This interesting surname, chiefly found in Scotland, has a number of possible sources. Firstly, it may be of Norman origin, and locational from Houssaye, a place in Seine-Maritime, so called from the Old French "hous", holly. Locational names were originally given to the Lord of the Manor, or as a means of identification to those who had left their place of origin to settle elsewhere. Regional and dialectal differences subsequently roduced several variations of the original spelling of the name. Hosie may also belong to that sizeable group of early European surnames that were gradually created from the habitual use of nicknames...

Looking to learn more about my family tree. Father William Hussey of Manchester, NH and his father Joseph Hussey also from Manchester. Believe lineage goes back to Cork and came to the Boston area around the turn of the 20th century.

Anyone familiar with a Benjamin Hussey. Lived in London area in 1930s. Might have been a constable. Email me. hobogirl2020 at gmail dot com Yvette

Hi.. I just want to correct that piece written about the Hussey name. It is completely incorrect to say that the Hussey name was chiefly found in Scotland. Of all the nations of the British isles Hussey is probably rarest in Scotland. It is NOT a Scottish name at all. It is a Norman name found moreso in England and Wales. There are also Hussey’s in Ireland where some are of Norman stock, from Hugh De Hose who arrived around 1171 and others are a totally unrelated Gaelic family O’hEodhusa rendered as Hussey in English. It is not a Scottish name at all and that text found on this site is misleading. I have seen that text elsewhere too and it was obviously copied and pasted from an original incorrect source. Regards, Patrick Hussey

Sarah Parsley

Hello everyone, my name is Sarah Parsley. My grandmother was born in Ireland, her maiden name was Hussey. She had 3 sons Sean (my father), Donald, and Dermot. I know she had several siblings, a sister Mary who lived in Tralee last I knew. Unfortunately both her and my father have passed and I do not speak to my uncles. I would love to reconnect to my distant cousins.

Hello Everyone, I’ve been working on putting together a facebook group page “Hussey family tree”. Here’s is the link as i’ve been doing a lot of research but it seems like a giant spider web and I’m looking for facts that we can post and share. Just click on the link or copy and paste is in your browser. You can also do a search for me Greg Hussey. I’m a martial artist from NJ in the states and I’m the moderator of the facebook group. I am interested in Hussey genealogy in Westmeath and Roscommon Counties.

I am from a small and almost extinct branch of the Hussey family in Co. Westmeath, Ireland. I am very interested in Genealogy and family history and I have done a fair amount of research on my family tree but i have yet plenty to do. I would love to hear from any Husseys who might have links to Westmeath in particular or who have an interest in the family history.
